EMI SHIELDING COATING

Our EMI coatings shield electronics from interference.
Thin, lightweight, and frequency-tailored

What is EMI shielding used for?

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding coating is used for blocking strong electromagnetic fields that would otherwise interfere with sensitive devices and signals. This interference may reduce performance or stop devices from working entirely.

We deliver coatings that provide excellent EMI shielding performance in high-volume production. These coatings are designed for electronic enclosures and assemblies that require reliable shielding.

Our EMI coatings are always optimized to meet your specific requirements, to deliver high-performance EMC solutions for electronic enclosures and assemblies.

EMI shielding coating options

We offer coating structures tailored to the specific requirements of each task, selecting the most suitable material combination based on substrate, environment, and shielding performance needs.

Examples of coating materials:

  • Copper / Silver
  • Chromium / Gold

Beyond copper/silver and chromium/gold coatings, we work with a range of advanced materials including aluminium, nickel, stainless steel, and titanium to meet specific application demands.

The choice of material we recommend is determined by substrate characteristics, environmental conditions, and shielding requirements. In corrosive environments, for example, stainless steel or titanium offer outstanding durability alongside effective shielding performance.

Typical Applications

Our EMI shielding coatings are well suited for plastic electronic housings, shielded enclosures for sensitive electronics, and EMC-critical assemblies across a broad range of industries.

EMI shielding performance

Our coatings deliver superior EMI shielding performance, excellent electrical conductivity, and outstanding adhesion to a variety of substrates. Results are consistent and reliable across production runs, and solutions are available for demanding and corrosive environments where standard coating materials may not be appropriate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between EMI and EMC?

EMI (electromagnetic interference) is the problem: unwanted electromagnetic energy that disrupts the normal operation of electronic circuits. It can degrade signal integrity, cause data errors, or stop a device from functioning altogether.

EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) is the engineering goal: designing a product so it neither emits harmful interference nor is susceptible to it.

Achieving EMC compliance typically requires shielding, filtering, or a combination of both, and is mandatory for regulated markets such as medical, defence, and aerospace.

How does a PVD thin-film coating provide EMI shielding?

A thin, conductive metal layer – typically copper, silver, or a chromium/gold stack – is deposited directly onto the substrate surface using a magnetron sputtering PVD process. This creates a continuous conductive barrier that attenuates incoming and outgoing electromagnetic fields, reflecting or absorbing them before they reach sensitive electronics.

Because the coating is very thin, it adds negligible weight and allows complex geometries – including plastic enclosures – to be shielded without redesigning the part. The result is consistent, measurable shielding performance across high-volume production batches.
